Kindelsberg path

The path starts above Kredenbach on the “Bussardweg”, or “Buzzard trail”, and continues into the Loher Tal nature reserve. Passing the Loher Weiher pool, you walk through the Witschenberg quarry. It passes along a wall-like mound until you reach theGrube Brüche pit. Taking paths through the “Hauberg” (mixed oak and birch woods), you reach the Brombach forest picnic area via the “Müsener Weidekampen” grazing slopes. The path passes through a large number of fir trees (“Feldmann’s Tannen”) until you reach the Wilder Mann pit site. Narrow paths take you through the Müsener Klippen rocks (Pingenfeld Stahlberger Stock). You then ascend the Martinshardt hill, gaining altitude. You can take a brief rest on the descending Rippenweg path, before continuing uphill again on the Birkhahn hill until you reach the Kindelsberg car park. You’re now just a short distance from the viewing tower with its restaurant. After taking a rest for fortifying food and drink, follow the SGV “Waldschadenspfad” (forest damage educational path) to the Waldesruh huts. Walking continuously towards the valley, you see relics of the impressive mining industry in the Siegerland region. From now on, you pass the Strumpf, Glücksanfang, Jungermann and Kuhlenberg mining pits. At the Martinshütte hut, you’ll find the opening to the Friedrichshoffnung pit, which has now caved in. Passing the Jungbrunnen spring and the Steinbruchshütte hut, you continue above the Zitzenbachtal valley back to the starting point.

The circular tour requires a certain degree of surefootedness; sturdy shoes are recommended, as is rainwear.

Halfway along the route, you can stop for food and drink at the Kindelsberg restaurant.

An alternative route takes you along the Ferndorf outdoor nature pool through the delightful Zitztenbachtal valley.
