The route combines destinations from the areas surrounding Lahti that tell the story of the Päijänne Tavastia region from different perspectives. All the nature destinations along the route are also Salpausselkä Geopark sites. The route passes through Hollola, Vääksy and Kalkkinen to Heinola. You will travel to the destinations by bicycle and then walk within the destinations. This is an around 2–3-day trip, but you can modify the route based on your schedule, for example by visiting only one or two of the destinations. These short descriptions of the destinations provide information about the cultural heritage of the region and the link between the sites and the local industrial history.
The cultural route was developed in a project Making the Cultural Heritage of Nature Destinations Come Alive (2022–2024) funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
The route can be travelled in 2-3 days, modifying the route to suit your own interests:
Day 1 starts at Kutajärvi nature trail and ends at Hollola church village, Kapatuosia hill - drive along the route to Asikkala.
Day 2 starts in Asikkala at the Vääksy canal, take a tour of the Vääksy sites and drive along the route via the Kalkkinen canal to Heinola.
Day 3 starts in Heinola, drive along the route to the Paistjärvi nature reserve area and then return to Heinola city centre to the Heinola City Museum and the Rantapuisto park.
